31.  MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY

Muscular dystrophy can be defined as a group of genetic degenerative myopathies characterised by weakness and atrophy of muscle without involvement of the nervous system.  The different types are distinguished according to onset, localisation and progression of the disease.

In respect of this contract, a hereditary muscular dystrophy must be confirmed by a neurological specialist registered in Malaysia/Singapore, acceptable to the Company, and where assessment confirms the inability of the life insured to move around the room without assistance and in addition the inability to perform one of the following Activities of Daily Living:

1. bathing

2. eating

3. using the lavatory

4. dressing

5. continence
